Social Butterflies

Diver Poppy

We have had a fantastic weekend … and one with lots of social engagements!

On Friday night I went along to the annual Tasmanian Tourism Awards with my dear friends and colleagues in the industry – Nic, Annabelle and Anne.  We met at my place where Nick popped open a bottle of Jansz as we added the final touches to our make-up, swapped under garment tricks and tips and enjoyed the fun of getting dolled-up together!  I had a great night and got to bed far too late.

On Saturday we went to Jackman & McRoss to meet Nick’s family for a coffee and then I took Poppy to her first 4th birthday party.  Her friends from daycare had a wonderful time playing ‘Pass the Parcel’ and all the other classic games!  On Saturday afternoon we celebrated a 70th Birthday.

Tourism Awards On Sunday we popped the Speedy Boat in the water and zoomed across the river to Triworks – a gorgeous little deserted beach 20 minutes away from Hobart by water.  I had an expectation of lazing around in the sun, reading the papers, eating nice food whilst the children built sand castles.  Mmmm … I should have known better as James was a fiend for the waves.  We couldn’t keep him out of the water and he needed constant supervision … hence no lazing around.  He is going to be a little water baby, just like his sister.

We also saw the new Brooke Street Pier being floated into place.  In the afternoon we hung out at home in the sun, eating apples, playing and generally making a mess of the house!  A wonderful weekend indeed.  Xx

Birthday Boating Bonanza

Spellbound

Maisy

We have had a lovely time away on the boat for Easter.  We went to Norfolk Bay this year, where we hunkered down in little Monk Bay and had a lovely time with our friends.  We were fortunate to be able to use Nick’s folks boat “Spellbound” (or “Schoolbell” as Poppy calls it) which provided us with more room for the four of us, plus Maisy.

BBQ’s on the beach, a birthday party, rafting up, champagne, pikelets, easter eggs and early nights … the five days soon drifted by and I cherished the moments spent together as a family and with our friends in a beautiful place.

Our little Poppet turned three on Saturday and we had a party for her on the beach where she was surrounded by all of her ‘boat’ friends, gifts, toasted marshmallows, musk sticks, birthday cake and everything and anything pink.

Poppy’s cake wasn’t one of my greatest achievements but when you start making it at 8:30 the night before you go away for five days, you aren’t going to get the results that you had hoped for.  It did make the journey on the boat and Poppy seemed to be happy when she saw it.  She did however say to me later that she would have liked a Ballerina cake instead!?

3rd Birthday

Birthday Girl

On Sunday we visited the Coal Mines Historic Site and stretched our legs around the ruins.

Me and James

On Monday morning we rafted up with Brett and Jacinta on “Mistraal” and hosted a morning tea for ‘everybody’.  Kids were hopping between boats, James was crawling all over the place, I was cooking pikelets and Maisy retreated to a lone dinghy … so the girls popped a bottle of bubbly and relaxed in the sun.

We were planning on returning home on Monday, but we decided to stay another night and cruised around to Bruny Island.  We planned our departure beautifully as both Poppy and James slept for the whole two hours of travelling.  Toilet paper, water and bread were running low but we managed and it was worth it to stay away another night.  We enjoyed a lovely roast meal with the Cooper’s and Poppy was in heaven playing with her ‘big’ girlfriends … loom bands, hair clips and television galore.

Rockly Rolly

Poppy

Mum, it’s rockly rolly!

With this statement, Poppy summed up our recent boating trip perfectly!  She couldn’t quite say “rocky” without the ‘l’.

It was our first trip away as a family of four on our little Tagus and we had a fab time but did strike some very windy weather over the four days, hence the ‘rocky rolly’!  We bunkered down in the safety of sheltered coves on Bruny Island and had a very relaxing time with our friends.

I ended up ‘jumping ship’ with Poppy, James and Maisy due to the conditions and John, my father-in-law picked us up from North Bruny Island on Saturday afternoon.

Both James and Poppy slept well in their new bunks on board, which was a relief!

A ‘Whale’ of a Time

Recherche Bay

We have had a wonderful family holiday away on the boat for five days. This was our ‘personal best’ in regards to the duration on-board with Poppy. She was a real little champ – sleeping for 12 hours each night and maintaining her day time sleeps on board.  She absolutely loves the beach, shells, dolphins, the dinghy and is a real little ‘salty sea dog!’

Salty Sea Dog

We meandered our way down ‘The Channel’ reaching our southern destination of Cockle Creek and Recherche Bay on Monday morning, in moody light and calm waters.  The weather wasn’t that great, but we enjoyed our time playing on the beautiful beaches and walking to the Bronzed Whale Sculpture.

It was Maisy’s 4th Birthday on Monday and she loved the special treats she received – runs on the beach, a sausage, lots of pats and even a Happy Birthday song!

Each morning Poppy would wake up next to us in her little cot and the first word she would say is:  “BOAT”!  Nothing like pointing out the obvious. Bless xx
