Christmas Festivities

Happy New Year!  We have had such a festive time since my last post, celebrating Christmas and New Year with both of our families in beautiful places.

We drove to the north of Tasmania to enjoy a pre-Christmas lunch with my family, on the farm.  It felt delicious being surrounded by everyone who had migrated home for this time of year (my sister Cath from exploring Europe for six months and Robby from Castlemaine).

The kids swam in the pool, were spoilt by their grandmother and enjoyed freshly picked raspberries from her garden.  As always, I enjoyed a little too much of my sister-in-law’s fab Rocky Road!  I just can’t stop at one piece.

Returning to Hobart, preparations began for our boating trip away.  The boat was finally packed for a week full of adventures with food, clothing and Christmas presents.  We left early on the 23rd December to Stewart’s Bay where smooth waters allowed an enjoyable four-hour trip, and we arrived to the solitude of white sand and blue waters.

Nick’s family arrived the next day (by boat and car) and the days morphed into time at the beach, swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, laying in the sun, eating, drinking champagne, opening presents, talking and just relaxing.

Poppy was overwhelmed with how Santa actually delivered a bike to her on the boat.  We were too!  It must have had something to do with the platter left out for the busy man and his reindeer on Christmas eve, consisting of carrots, biscuits and a Cascade Draught!

It was lovely to celebrate Christmas whilst being away on the boat and being surrounded by a gorgeous family in a such a stunning setting.  Xxx

Open Day

Open Day

Ten pirates (little and big), one boat, good food and several bottles of sparkling wine, equals a fantastic day on the water to celebrate Open Day and the start of the sailing season in Hobart on Saturday.

After the official sail past, and a long lunch in the sun we continued onto Kings Pier where we stayed on board for the night with our other boating friends.  We dined at Fish Frenzy for dinner, had a big sleep and went for breakfast at T42 in the morning, all within a hop, skip and jump from the marina.

Hobart turned it on once again with fantastic weather – I just love this time of year.

Boating and Birthdays

Birthday Drinks at T42

We have enjoyed another busy week which has included more time away on the boat last weekend and celebrating my birthday on Monday.

We headed away to Bruny Island for two nights and despite the windy forecast we hunkered down in the sheltered waters at Quarantine.  We ran into our friends and their girls and manage to watch the AFL Football Grand Final together as the temperature soared and the girls cooled off in the water.

On Sunday we had lunch at Apollo Bay and enjoyed the slightly cooler temperatures before cruising back to the yacht club in the afternoon.

On Monday I enjoyed being spoilt for my birthday.  Poppy was definitely more excited about my ‘turning of age’ than I was and proceeded to let everyone at Child Care know how old I was turning!  I whipped up a cake and saw their delight in singing and blowing out the candles for me.  Nick and I ventured out for a drink at T42 and an amazing dinner at The Glasshouse on such a mild evening.

I love this time of year and we so we have been out enjoying our garden which is in full bloom – the wisteria, oak tree and jasmine are all bursting with Spring.  We went for a big walk along the beach this morning on yet another perfect Hobart day.  Xx

A Weekly Wrap

Poppy at Salamanca Market

Another week has passed and Friday is upon us already!

With hints of Spring in the air, we have enjoyed a party for Nick’s 40th birthday, our 7th Wedding Anniversary, Book Week costumes galore and a mid-week night away on the boat.

Nick picked me up from work on Wednesday afternoon, which was a beautiful day in Hobart – we grabbed the kids and jumped on the boat with Nick’s brother Will, his wife Tup and their gorgeous girls.  We cruised to Fish Frenzy for dinner and then continued on and anchored off Nutgrove Beach.  Poppy and James went to bed and Nick and I watched a movie to the gentle sway of the swell.  I love Hobart and how easy it is to access nature, even on school-night, whether it be by boat, bike or foot.

It is a rainy day here today and we are cooking pancakes for breakfast, doing puzzles, playing with train sets and resisting that daily urge to pop the tellie on before we go to Hill Street to stock up the pantry.  Xx

Winter Boating

Curly James

Thank you to our lovely little heater on board, it enables us to spend time away on our boat all year round.

There is nothing quite as cosy as settling in for a night on the boat after a hearty meal, playing board games or catching up with friends who are rafted up next to you.  I love climbing into our cosy bed and sleeping soundly, especially if there is a gentle roll.

This long weekend was no exception as we were away for three nights on Bruny Island.  We left on Friday afternoon and met our friends Jacinta and Brett, Frazer and Amanda and their gorgeous girls at the Kettering Pub for dinner.  The kids had their own table and loved their Fish & Chips, whilst we enjoyed some wine, hearty pub fare and good conversation.

The next day included a spot of fishing, afternoon naps, fireworks, an evening roast cooked on Mistraal and too much sparkling wine!  The girls all huddled together in a bunk watching a movie and James slept soundly.

On Sunday we went to the Bruny Island House of Whiskey for lunch with more of our friends from the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania.  James was carried around like a doll by all the girls which enabled Nick and I to relax in this very scenic location.

On Monday morning we returned back to Hobart in high winds and a good squall of 40 – 50 knot winds.  Our little crew handled the seas well and James barely looked up from his Peppa Pig episode.  We made it back into the Marina feeling slightly relieved.

I love our time away on the boat and look forward to more winter trips soon.  Xx

Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day!

On Saturday afternoon we decided at the last-minute to go away on the boat and rolled out of the marina at 5pm.  We have just bought Nick’s parents boat – Spellbound, and this was our first family night away.  Staying in Shag Bay we were on the doorstep of Hobart but tucked inside this beautiful little bay on the Eastern Shore, we could have been anywhere.

I loved hanging out with Poppy and James on Mothers Day and made it special for me with Poppy exclaiming:

Mummy, you are the best Mummy ever and a really good cooker!

We picked up Sam and Scarlett on Sunday morning at Bellerive and hung out in the autumn sunshine drinking take-away coffees and eating bakery goodies.

I am forever humbled by this journey of Motherhood and continue to learn more and more from my children.  I wouldn’t swap it for the world!  Xx

I hope you all enjoyed a fabulous weekend?  It certainly was superb weather and we were lucky to be away on the boat for the whole weekend.

Bruny Island certainly turned it on for us as we enjoyed time on the water with our friends, Richard and Anna and Marcus and Janeen and their children.  Happy days.  Xx

Boat Festivals & Birthdays

Wooden Boat Festival

Woah – my poor blog!  I started back at work last week and clearly I haven’t found my multi-skilling groove yet (blogging, teaching and mumming)!?  I am back on deck now and have had an exciting weekend.

My dear old Dad turned 80 last Friday and we had a wonderful celebration for him in Westbury with all of the family, friends and community members.  My gorgeous sister Rob and her husband Paul, were also staying with us from Castlemaine during the week.  I love having them here and each time they stay I selfishly wish they lived in Hobart!  My hopes and dreams are getting closer as they are looking at relocating ‘home’ at some stage … yippee!

To add to the excitement of the weekend, Hobart hosted the Australian Wooden Boat Festival.

Wooden Boat Festival

Hobart was abuzz with hardy sailors, boating enthusiasts, cruise ships and the Air Force Roulettes.  It was all happening and we enjoyed an (early) night out riding a classic Merry-Go-Round, followed by music and drinks at T42 and Rectango with my sisters, brother-in-law and little people.

Wooden Boat Festival

We took our (fibreglass) Speedy Boat out on a gorgeous Saturday morning and buzzed around the docks for some waterside viewing of the festival.  We also caught up with our friends, Leesa and James onboard their wooden beauty – Iverus – which was an entrant in the festival.

We caught up with more friends in Launy for Breakfast on Sunday morning and I took Poppy and James to the Launceston Aquatic Centre on Monday, followed by a picnic on the lawns.

I’ll let the photos do the talking – as it certainly was another wonderful weekend in Tasmania!

Australia Day

We have just returned from being away for the Australia Day Long Weekend on Bruny Island with Nick’s folks and our ‘boating’ friends.

Poppy was in her element playing with the ‘big girls’, eating muffins, having her toenails painted, watching ‘Frozen’, riding in boats, playing on the beach and putting on Australian flag transfers!
