Sneaky Peek : Stairwell

Last week I gave you an external glimpse of our home, and this week a sneaky peek into our stairwell.  I love the huge steel corner window – reminiscent of the Art Deco period and how the afternoon light floods in.

I had never lived in a double story home before, and growing up I was always intrigued by houses with stairs.  I love the idea of ‘climbing’ up to go to bed, like a little birds nest.  I feel safe upstairs and love that the space is somewhat a private part of our home.  Inevitably I always have little piles on the bottom or top step.  Items that need to be ‘put away’ on their respective floors.

When my nieces and nephews visit us, they are so excited that we have stairs and LOVE playing on them.  However, Poppy’s safety gates have somewhat curbed their freedom of sliding down on their bottoms.

Nick also has wonderful memories of visiting his Grandfather at the house we now live in, when he was a boy.  He and his brothers spent many hours sliding down the stairs on sleeping bags, only to receive warnings about how they would wear out the carpet.  The carpet is still going strong … some 30 years later!

The stairs have also been a great training ground for Poppy as she learns to manoeuvre each step, both up and down.  Sometimes she finds the ‘Scary Stair Monster’ (aka Dad) to hurry her along. Roaaaarrrrr!

Yum : Choc Chip Cookies

Ok, I admit it – I have a weakness for chocolate! I figure I could be addicted to much worse.  I love these cookies but the temptation to sneak my little hand into the cookie jar is far too great, so I try not to make them that often. Enjoy – they are divine: Chocolate

A Family Affair

Poppy and I made a quick trip to Hagley on Sunday to spend the day with my family. My brother Greg, and his wife Sarah hosted a BBQ at their home. This is the house I shared with Greg many years ago, during my hippy phase and it certainly didn’t look as beautiful as it does now.

The sun was shining, Poppy and her cousins loved playing on the lawn and we drank wine on the deck and ate beautiful food. It was a delightful day. xx

Slipyard Baby

Nick has just launched into a big project on the boat – it is time for the ‘ol boy to have a ‘make over’.  Most boats are referred to as ‘she‘ but for some reason, Tagus has always been ‘he‘.

The make over includes scraping back all the old paint and stickers, and removing the gunnel rails before it can be sanded, and finally painted.  It is going to look very schmick once completed.

Poppy was right at home in the slip yards this morning and enjoyed the ride in the wheelbarrow with Dad.  Bless. x

Sneaky Peek : Home Sweet Home

I love Spring … and I love our garden at this time of year.  The warmer air and longer days entice you outside to enjoy the wisteria blossoms and the brand new leaves on the oak tree.  You can almost see the grass growing each day and as a result Nick has been giving the mower a good workout.

Our home is a classic Art Deco with very modernist lines and was built in the early 1940’s.  Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra are right at home here!

We have lived here for nearly 5 years, and it is a very special home for us. Nick’s Grandfather lived here for 54 years and his Mum grew up in the house, so there are many family memories.  I love this history and seeing old family photos of a younger garden and hearing the stories of days gone by.

I now enjoy seeing a new generation discover the garden … a garden that has been lovingly grown by hand by Poppy’s forebears.

So today I share with you a glimpse of our very special home and garden.

Tasty Tuesday : Asparagus & Cheese Tart

I found this recipe in last Tuesday’s Mercury Newspaper and made it the other night.  It was very tasty: Cheese and Asparagus Tart 300 g reduced-fat ricotta cheese 100 g feta cheese – crumbled 2 tsp lemon rind, finely grated 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves 2 spring onions, thinly sliced 2 bunches (400 g) asparagus,

Adventurous Spirit

I had a lovely birthday on Friday and was very spoilt by Nick, my friends and family.  Nick bought be a Kindle, which I am very excited about.

Initially when electronic readers were released I was quite dubious about reading a book ‘on-line’ as I love the written word on paper and actually holding a book. However after speaking to many people who are avid readers who did make the switch – said they would never go back!  I love reading, but what do you do with the all the books after their stories have been told? I have now downloaded a novel based in Paris and I look forward to my new era of reading.

Poppy was very clever and bought me some beautiful products from Lush (as we love our bath times together) and even wrote me a card:

Nick and I went out on Friday night with our friends, Juliet and Alistair. Juliet also celebrates her birthday on the 5th and it was nice to be out!

Yesterday we had a wonderful day on Bruny Island, where we caught the ferry and went for a walk to Grassy Point in Adventure Bay.  Little Poppy wasn’t in form due to a stubborn molar that is taking a while to surface, but I think she enjoyed the fresh air and hitching a ride in the backpack with Mum.  I love watching her discovering new aspects of nature as she picked up shells and rocks on the beach (with sandwich in hand).  She is such an adventurous little spirit.  xx

Eat Eat : Wash Wash

Today is Friday (and my 42nd Birthday) and I am featuring our little Poppet, but firstly here is a photo of me on my 5th birthday (I loved that shirt), with my new ‘Barbie’ and a fabulous cake that my Nanna made:

I think Poppy finally has her appetite back and is featured here enjoying her weet-bix and yoghurt!  I have also started serving her meals on her little table and I join her.  I think this has made a real difference.

I am also training her to wash up – yeah I wish??  It might be a few more years before she earns her pocket-money, but it’s never too early to start is it??  She wasn’t too fond of the taste of the detergent either. x

Hoot Hoot ♥

As you may have noticed, I am hoping to have a little more structure to my blog.  I find it a little bit challenging when I work three days a week to always come up with interesting and notable posts to entertain you!  So, I have done a little bit of research and all the
