DIY Divas

All of my friends know that I am a sucker for Scandinavian design furniture. I subscribe to blogs such as The Style Files, Love Nordic Design, From Scandinavia with Love and My Scandinavian Retreat to name a few.  I often dream about jetting off with Poppy and Nick to live another life in a remote Nordic chalet, full of designer furniture, where we ski from the front door, wear woolley jumpers and watch the Northern Lights from our deck (and would look something like this):

Snow Cabin Chalet Chalet 1

Ah, we would probably get bored with all the beauty.

Forego the Nordic chalet and the woolley jumpers, IKEA sometimes gives you that little Scandinavian hit that gets you through!  I have been drooling over the IKEA Mandal Chest of 6 Drawers for some time!  My colleague Alex was in Melbourne last weekend with his Landcruiser and happened to be going to IKEA, and so I put in my order.

Nick was away on a boys’ fishing trip all weekend and with Allan Key in hand, I began to assemble the chest of drawers.  My little off-sider also got into the act but when she started walking around with a hammer and screwdriver in hand, it was time to divert her attention to another ‘puzzle’.

After using all the components, the chest of drawers is now complete and takes pride of place in Poppy’s room.  It looks so beautiful – nice and simple and yet easy to use.

Moisture Baby

We were about to head out the door last week when Poppy became mysteriously quiet upstairs.  I found her self-applying some moisturiser I had left on the bathroom bench!  Whoops … a little overdone perhaps?  We were a little late to our appointment!

Little Cleaner

Forget all those toys that Poppy has – her new favourite is a $1 water bottle sprayer from Woolworths!  I should put her on the payroll!  x

Monday Blues

IMG_9850I am suffering from a severe case of the ‘Monday Blues’!  I am returning back to work today after six glorious weeks off!  It has been wonderful spending that amount of time with Poppy and I am going to miss her dearly today.

Our weekend has been another action-packed one.  We went away on the boat on Friday night, which was very relaxing.  Poppy becomes so excited when she has to put her life-jacket on to go in the dinghy with Nick.

On Saturday night, my dear school friend – Sarah and her friend Innes stayed with their daughter’s, Lucy and Beatrix from Melbourne.  It was wonderful to see Sarah again after almost a year.

The next morning we took them out on the boat for a very relaxed breakfast.  It was all happening on the river with sea planes taking off, two cruise ships in dock, the Aurora Australis ship cruising by and sailing competitions!

Merry Christmas

For my annual e-Christmas Card I thought I would share a ‘Year in Photos‘. 2012 has been yet another year full of amazing experiences, precious time with family and seeing Poppy continually develop and grow.  So sit back, listen to this beautiful song and enjoy our gallery. xx I am signing off from ‘bloggy’ for a week

The Red Nose Reindeer

This little gem came home from day care yesterday!  I think this will be framed and brought out each festive season!

Christmas Fever

The Christmas tree is up, the decorations are on, the lights are twinkling and Bing and Frank are crooning out the carols.  We all have the Christmas fever!

Small Wins

Poppy is obsessed with wrapping, un-wrapping and wrapping Dolly again in her ‘blankie’! She is such a little mother and loves fussing over her little gem. She has been on fire at the moment, chatting away, laughing and learning lots of new words and sounds: Nick: What sound does a tiger make? Poppy: Rooooaaar Nick:

Trash or Treasure?

We have just sold our investment property in Launceston, after a friend’s sister approached me via Facebook! I bought this house in 2002 and I felt proud as punch moving into ‘my own home’ and had a wonderful time living there.  I moved to Hobart in 2005 and kept a lot of my ‘stuff’ in

Poppy + Flynn

Since having Poppy we have met some fantastic new friends.  Nick and I met Eve and Mark in our Antenatal classes and their son Flynn, was born 6 days after Poppy. We have become very good friends and have enjoyed many ‘play-dates’ together.  Eve is a fellow adventurer and so we regularly bundled the kids
