The School Run

The Troops It was a lovely sunny morning this morning and so I bundled up the baby and the dog and walked Poppy to school (we call it school but it is Day Care).  We had to stop several times to pick up rocks to put in her pocket; to rub her knee after she took a tumble and to untangle the dog lead from Maisy’s back leg.  Ah the patience you have when you are a mum (or not!).

Little James was happy just chilling out in his new digs.  My friend Melissa had bundled up all of her baby boys clothes and handed them down to me. A very lucky (and stylish) little man!

Birthday Bliss

Pops & Larni

It was my birthday on Saturday and I had a wonderful day.  It started with Poppy standing next to my bed singing her rendition of “Happy Birthday”  followed by her saying “Happy Birthday Mummy“.  Ah, melt your heart!

The night before I had a catch up with the girls at The Italian Pantry which was delicious and fun.

On Saturday morning we went to The Pigeon Hole for an early breakfast.  It was then the Opening Day of the sailing season but due to the blustery winds and unfavourable conditions on the Derwent, the ‘Sail Past’ (the Governor) was cancelled.  So we got together and sat in the marina for a few bubbles and some yummy food.  My husband was very organised and grabbed some expressed breast milk out of the freezer, so I could enjoy a glass or two!

It was fun.

Our Little Bear

Mountain Buggy Travel System

Our little bear is 11 weeks tomorrow!  James is growing up far too fast and it feels strange to be packing away those 0000 sized clothes for him, and breaking out the 000’s.  He has recovered well from his Bronchiolitis after a week of hunkering down out of the weather, with lots of sleep (and cuddles).

I am chuffed because I have just bought the Mountain Buggy Travel System which is an attachment for our pram, that enables you to clip the capsule from the car straight to the pram.  Oh my god – it is a godsend.  I haven’t had to disturb him during his sleep and it is so nice seeing him right in front of you.

On another note, Poppy is slightly obsessed with taking photos with my iPhone.  These are some of her latest – quite artistic really!  Those poor passengers.  Xx

Sneaky Peek : Warts and All

I’ve been criticised in the past by a good friend that my blog is not a true reflection of what is actually going on in my world, and yes, they have been right! Perhaps my blog is too ‘shiny and happy’ when there are days that aren’t truly like that.

Of course everyone has their bad days, but I have chosen to predominately concentrate on the positives and the portrayal of Poppy and James’ growth and development.  I try not to get too bogged down in the ‘dirty laundry’.  I choose other mediums to air my concerns and worries which include speaking with Nick and my good friends.

But today it is raining (again) and these are my worries:

  • James has Bronchiolitis and is very miserable
  • My Dad is unwell and has been back in hospital this week
  • Poppy has Molluscum Contagiosum on her beautiful little belly which has been stressing me out since its first outbreak in January.  We have now discovered Lemon Myrtle Oil thanks to Goulds Pharmacy and it appears to be improving
  • I’m having a ‘mid-life’ career crisis
  • I’m turning 43 on Saturday – oh my that sounds so old and grown up
  • Nick has gone away to the West Coast for work this week – I miss him
  • We are out of bread!

There are far worse things to worry about but I guess it is all relative.  I have now looked at these photos of James and all of the above worries dissipate. He is now a very healthy 4.850 grams!  I have so many things to be thankful for.   Xxx

The Great Pram Crash

Unfortunately I don’t have any inspiring recipes for you today, but I do have a couple of photos of the tragedy that occurred here yesterday morning on the stairs.

All I heard was poor little Pops huffing and puffing up the stairs and then the inevitable cry of despair and frustration!  Luckily the dolly’s were unharmed.

Scooter Girl

Scooter Girl

I can’t believe how quickly our little ‘Scooter Girl’ is growing up.  Her regular phrases include:

“Mummy, it’s a bit boring”

“Mummy, I’m a little bit shy”

“Mummy, I’m not really sure”

“Mummy, go to Nanna and Pa’s farm?”

“Mummy, I’m tired.   Go to bed now”  (love this one)

“Cake?”

Where has the time gone since she was a baby and only babbling??

Tall Ships

Tall Ships

On Friday evening we went out on the river to welcome the Tall Ships to Hobart.  James, Leesa, Depha, Cath and their children joined us on Nick’s folks’ boat for a cruise and to watch the fabulous fireworks.

A lovely evening with lovely friends.  Pops was exhausted when I tucked her into bed at 9.00 pm – she certainly had expended all of her energy playing with the ‘big girls’!

Melbourne ♥

Today I am loving seeing little Poppy after my mini-break in Melbourne with James and the girls.  I went in to say “Good Morning” to her this morning and without missing a beat, her response was:  “Nice holiday Mummy?”

Jen, Cherida and I enjoyed our last day in Melbourne yesterday by adding to our waistlines and our wardrobes!  We ate European food for breakfast and Vietnamese for lunch.  We shopped at all the old favourites whilst James literally slept like a baby!

Sneaky Peek : Melbourne

Larni in Hunt Leather

I am in Melbourne … on a very quick trip with my dear girlfriends Jen & Cherida (oh and my little man, James). Every year we meet in Melbourne for a cultural sojourn, where we eat, shop, laugh and just enjoy each other, away from our everyday responsibilities!

Yesterday was no exception! We had lunch at Cumulus Inc., a wee shopping spree in the afternoon (although stopping to feed your eight week old baby curbs any over-spending) and a delicious dinner at the Chocolate Buddha in Federation Square.

Whilst we all enjoy the break from our children, ironically we ended up in the David Jones Children’s section purchasing little outfits for our cherubs at home. Our purchases used to include high heels and evening wear!

True to form (and tradition) we are off to The European this morning to savour some delightful breakfast fare, and then oh – more shopping before our 6 pm flight back to Hobart! Delightful.

Have 8 week old – can travel!  Xx
