It’s been an interesting week, with no time for blogging as poor little Pops has been quite unwell with high fevers and tonsillitis! James is getting over (just) his ear infection and so it has been a bit of a juggle with demands at work and looking after sick little ones.
We have had some nice moments in between however – enjoying a fab 40th celebration for a friend on Saturday night, and a drink and dinner catch up with an old friend who was visiting from Melbourne. Xx

I’m ‘Captain Boring’ at home, preferring to stick to a semi-ordered state of play when it comes to daytime sleep, dinner, bath, book and bed routine.
But sometimes … you just need to jump off that merry-go-round/ground-hog-day and replenish! To mix it up a bit and have some precious time out with treasured friends and so this weekend was my annual Melbourne trip away and boy-oh-boy, it was so appreciated.
Saying goodbye to our little chickens on Friday morning, I jetted off to Melbourne to meet the girls. Cherida flew in from Adelaide and we had the pleasure of hanging out with another friend for the day, before she returned home to her family. For three days I didn’t have to worry about anyone but myself.
There was no time for thinking – ‘What’s for dinner‘; ‘Have I got enough nappies‘ or ‘I need to make lunches‘. There was plenty of time however for a leisurely lunch at the Dansk Restaurant with a bottle of bubbles and herring! An evening stroll through Emporium Melbourne before wandering to our 8:30pm reservation for dinner at Coda. Yes … 8:30pm, not 5:30pm!
A sleep in … well, a lay in til 8:00am (as I just can’t seem to sleep past 6:30am these days) and then a whole day of following our noses through the city admiring beautiful things and eating amazing food. A sushi train experience for lunch, followed by more shopping and a refresh before heading out to dinner at 9:00pm!
I loved having time out from the ‘home’ routine, but it was so delightful to see my little family pick me up at the airport on Sunday afternoon. I couldn’t squeeze their chubby cheeks enough.

Today I am loving Georg Jensen’s Serenity Ring. So sublime.
We have had a fantastic weekend celebrating the Winter Solstice here in Hobart. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful city that is home to Dark MOFO, the festival that celebrates all things mid-winter.
Nick and I went along to the Winter Feast on Friday night … sans children! We ate, drank, sat by a fire and enjoyed a night out with our friends.
On Saturday the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania’s Cruising Committee organised a winter cruising event where we stayed on our boats in Elizabeth Street Pier for the night. Talk about a rock star berth – right in the heart of the Dark MOFO festivities.
We ventured out to hold the Pulse Column, revisited the Fire Organ and enjoyed a warm gin at the Hendrick’s Parlour of Curiosities. After the kids were in bed we gathered on Mistraal and enjoyed a few drinks with our friends.
Waking up to see the sunrise, I enjoyed a wander around the docks and witnessed the glow of the sun bringing warmth to the shortest day of the year.
We all had breakfast at T42 and Sam and Scarlett joined us for a walk to the Brooke Street Pier and the Hustle & Scout Fashion Market at the Salamanca Arts Centre.
To end the weekend, we donned our pom poms and drove to the summit of Mt. Wellington to witness the sunset of the Winter Solstice. Oh Hobart … you are getting more and more beautiful.

This project has been on my ‘to-do-list’ for a long time but due to my teaching commitments in the first semester, I haven’t been able to spend the required time on it.
Now that our students are on mid-semester break, it has enabled me to get my ‘geeky’ on and while away many hours at work, without any distractions!

I took Poppy and James up to the family farm to see their Grandparent’s last Thursday and Friday. They love feeding the fish, seeing the sheep, playing with our old toys and running around the wide open spaces. We also popped in to see the monkeys in Launceston’s City Park.
We woke on Friday morning to a white frost with much excitement about touching the ice that had formed on the pond and bird bath. Lovely. Xx
