Snow Pop

On Saturday we went to Mt. Field for Poppy’s first experience in the snow!

I had grand plans of doing the Lake Dobson circuit, but the day was dreadful.  After dressing Pops in all her layers and loading her into the backpack, the weather deteriorated even more and we ended up walking 50 metres to the shelter! We certainly didn’t break any records in the distance department.

We retreated down the mountain and found more snow to play in (without the bitterly cold wind)! Poppy thought it was quite funny when her Mum & Dad started throwing snowballs at each other (and her).

We finished off our adventure with a walk to Russell Falls. I am so looking forward to spending more time with Poppy and Nick in the mountains this summer…and this was definitely a good warm up!

Moonrise Kingdom

Last night, Melissa and I had our regular movie date and went to see Wes Anderson’s new film – Moonrise Kingdom.

Here is what Margaret and David had to say about it At the Movies:

Wes Anderson is a strange and lovely fellow and he’s drawn to strange and yet resilient characters in his movies. His film MOONRISE KINGDOM opened the Cannes Film Festival this year and while it didn’t have audiences stomping in the aisles, there is a quality to the film that embraces you with its sweetness. Two young people Sam and Susy recognize the soul mate in the other and plan to run away together.

The year is 1965, the location an island off the east coast of the United States where not only Susy’s parents – FRANCES MCDORMAND and BILL MURRAY, but the head of Sam’s Scout troop – EDWARD NORTON, and local cop – BRUCE WILLIS – all try to track down the escaping duo.

There is something so endearing at the heart of Wes Anderson’s movies that you feel sucked in despite the quirkiness of his design, his direction and indeed his characters. His singular take on young love on the run from any sort of authority has moments of sheer oddness, but it’s all of a piece with his other work and you are either an Anderson fan or you’re not.

I recommend it!  I loved the quirkiness…and the 60’s camping gear! x

At Home

I have been home with little Poppyseed for the past couple of days, as she has come down with another bout of tonsillitis and a suspected ear infection. After I retrieved her from care on Monday morning, we have had a couple of trips to the doctor since then.  Poppy is now on the mend

Sneaky Peek : Our Kitchen

Here is a sneaky peek into the heart of our home – our little kitchen! When we moved in, we removed the green stripey wallpaper and painted the room with Dulux Natural White for a crisp, fresh look! It is a lovely little space with a stellar view – which helps when washing up, as

Boo!

I have had this wooden chest for years and it has always been filled with paraphernalia that has been collected over the years, including school year books, letters, cards and old diaries. I am such a hoarder, and a sentimental one at that!  I really struggle to throw things out – like I really need to keep that letter that Teena wrote to me in Grade 9??

However, I saw the chest as valuable storage space for Poppy’s toys.  I finally cleaned it out, but still couldn’t part with any of the contents – I just transferred everything to another box upstairs!

Not only does the chest serve as Poppy’s new toy box, it is also a tunnel and a cubby house!  Perfect.

I Love My Dad

We spoilt ‘Dad’ yesterday for his second Father’s Day. Pops and I showered Nick in gifts (this book and some shoes) and brought him breakfast in bed!  A beautiful spring day, spent with my beautiful family.  x

Sit Maisy, Good Dog

Poppy’s vocabulary is expanding by the day and yesterday morning at the beach she was saying:  “Sit Maisy”, complete with the hand gesture, that I use.   Maisy was very obliging actually!

I love hearing new words pass Poppy’s lips and her current repertoire includes:

  • Boppy (Poppy)
  • Mummy (used for lots of things)
  • Daddy
  • Zizzy (Maisy)
  • Dog
  • Sock
  • Hi
  • Bye Bye
  • Up

It makes my heart melt when she says her name!

A Year On…

This week marks the one-year anniversary of The Poppy Files!  I have really enjoyed the creative outlet that my blog has provided and it is a wonderful medium to mark the first year of Poppy’s life.  I know I often digress into fashion and design, but I like how the site is evolving, and I

Liberty Love

When I was in London, I got lost in the visual goodness of Liberty of London. It was such a delight and after much deliberation, I bought a beautiful silk scarf:

A square silk scarf featuring a multi colour repeated shoe illustration print on a pink background, with a black and peach border and ‘Manolo Blahnik for Liberty’ printed in one corner.

I may not have many opportunities these days to wear beautiful high heels, but at least I can now wear them around my neck!

Philibert

Philibert, the dog also jumped into my suitcase when I was in Paris. He brought along his kennel too, as he is a little shy.

I love his Liberty print ears and tail and his plush coat.  Nick has nicknamed him Dougal! He likes Poppy.
