Jimmy Giggle + Santa

Poppy an I went along to her first Christmas Pageant on Saturday!  At first she was quite overwhelmed with the amount of people, loud band noises and crazy floats. She finally warmed up and ended up waving her flag madly.

We were quite excited to see Jimmy Giggle from Giggle and Hoot and of course, the main man of the moment … Santa!

When Nothing Goes Right

I had one of those days when nothing goes right – like Poppy’s new t-shirt ($5 from Cotton On – bargain)!

  • I hung the washing out on the line, only for the heavens to open minutes later.  Grrrrrr!
  • The plans were released for the house to be built on the vacant block next door.  Mmmmm?
  • I am selling my old iMac computer and have to transfer 4789 photos onto our external hard drive first – and the computer kept crashing.  Hmmmph!
  • I was cooking dinner and spilt chicken stock all over the floor.  %#*@$!

Luckily, all I had to do was look at Poppy and her chubby little legs and everything was fine!

Madame Constance ♥

Today I am loving Madame Constance from Moulin Roty:

Les Parisiennes are a small family of pretty rag dolls, each one presented in a beautifully decorated gift box. Madame Constance, the larger and ‘more grown up’ of the dolls measures 50cm in height, has a beautifully embroidered face, and is wearing a pretty outfit edged in Liberty fabric. She comes in her own gorgeous gift box.

I first met Madame Constance when I was in her homeland in August and unfortunately I didn’t buy her then but have thought of her ever since.  She is currently on lay-by for Poppy for Christmas and I can’t wait for her to come and live with us!

Sneaky Peek : Shoes l Bags l Hats

It is a well-known fact that I LOVE shoes, bags and hats!  They all make an outfit complete and there are so many adorable pieces out there!  Today’s post is a sneaky peek into my walk-in-robe!

Shoes

I have slowly accumulated a range of shoes over the years in all styles, colours and heel heights.  I love my high heels for special occasions, but do find them quite uncomfortable (maybe I am getting old?)

My everyday staples include ‘Birkies’ (Birkenstock Gizeh in Khaki) and my new favourite – Acne Pistol Boots which I bought in London.  I have lived in these boots and find them extremely comfortable, but still with a bit of a heel.

My other favourites include espadrilles, flats and any Camper shoes.

Hats & Bags

My mother was a Milliner and has all these amazing old hat boxes and a hat iron.  She also used to model her creations in the local newspaper – The Examiner.

I used to wish that I grew up in the era when hats and gloves were part of your outfit as it looks so classy. I do have a few hats, but unfortunately don’t wear them as much as I would like.

I think Poppy has inherited my love of shoes – here is a new pair of Walnut Mary Jane’s for her growing little feet:

Yum : Rice Paper Rolls with Vietnamese Dipping Sauce (Nuoc Cham)

One of my favourite meals – Rice Paper Rolls with Vietnamese Dipping Sauce! This is a great dinner party meal and we enjoyed it last night with my sister Cath and her daughter Bronte, who were in town for the night! Vietnamese Rolls 500 g cooked prawns 2 chicken breasts – boiled and shredded Carrot

Social Butterflies

Happy Monday morning!  Poppy and I were little social butterflies over the weekend – flitting from one engagement to the next!  Nick was hard at work on Tagus all weekend, making the final adjustments before re-launching it back in the water yesterday afternoon.

On Friday night I went along to the Tourism Awards with my dear friends Anne and Pete.  It was fun dressing up, eating lovely food, catching up with lots of people and … having a good ‘ol boogie on the dance floor.  I was a little dusty on Saturday morning, but luckily Poppy had a little sleep in.

Saturday afternoon was our annual Peter Stuyvesant International Sporting Event.  Each year our old friends get together for a different team sport which has included:

  • 2007 – Tennis
  • 2008 – Croquet
  • 2009 – Table Tennis
  • 2010 – Beach Volleyball
  • 2011 – Badminton
  • 2012 – Frisbee Golf

Sammy and Rob won Badminton last year and have had the honour of looking after the perpetual trophy and organising Frisbee Golf for 2012!

I was partnered with Clare and we decided we needed a handicap because we had three children between us.  This definitely impacted on our sporting prowess.  We came in 3rd in the end with Sam T. and Rob winning the overall event for 2012!

After the ‘Awards Ceremony’ Poppy and I dashed back to Hobart to meet up with my sister-in-law, Sarah and her children – Nina and George for an early dinner at Fish Frenzy.  It was a perfect Hobart evening and Poppy loved playing with her big cousins.

On Sunday morning, Nick and I took Poppy and Maisy to the beach for an early morning walk.  Poppy and I then spent the day in the garden and Depha came around for a late lunch!

What a lovely weekend.  I hope you all enjoyed the lovely weather too? xx

Heads Up

Obviously it is only natural to take photos of your baby’s face … and as you have seen there are many, many of Poppy’s little face.  But there is just something about the back of her head that I love as well – her little curls, tufty hair and soft, soft skin on her neck:

Music ♥

I love music and listen to a range of genres (well apart from Country and Def Metal).  I have an eclectic mix of CD’s which Poppy loves taking off the shelf to stand on – EEK!  I now download music through iTunes.

I have been fortunate to experience some fantastic festivals and live music over the years.  I love that feeling of being at a music festival with your ‘crew’ on a warm summer’s evening, amongst the throng of revellers and that deep base resonating through to your very core.

The Falls Festival in Tasmania is always a winner and we have had some fantastic times there in the past:

I also went to WOMAD in Adelaide with Penny in 2008 – such a mix of amazing music from around the world for three days!

Perhaps it is a sign of getting older, but in recent years my music taste has shifted towards the classical end of the spectrum.  I listen to ABC Classic FM at home during the day as I love the calming effect of the background music.

I have recently come across some very moving pieces.  Here is one to sit down to with a cup of tea, close your eyes and enjoy Misha Maisky play Bach Cello Suite No. 1 in G.  What a fabulous piece!

Finally, my music repertoire continues to evolve.  This is what we are listening to in the car at the moment:

Sneaky Peek : Rafting

Today is a sneaky peek into my pre-Poppy work.  In 2010, we took our Certificate IV Tourism (Guiding) students on a two-day rafting trip down the Picton and Huon Rivers in Southern Tasmania.  I am no Rafting Guide and had called in the experts (Heather & Matt), but I went along and we had a fabulous time.

I’ve been fortunate and have rafted a few amazing rivers over the years.  In 2006 I rafted the Franklin River in South West Tasmania with work and remains my all time favourite.  In 1996 I was in Nepal for a couple of months and rafted the Kali Gandaki River, with Ultimate Descents which was also amazing.

There is something so visually appealing to me about rafting.  Apart from the journey and adventure, I love the contrast of the bright rafts and gear against the deep colours of nature.  I also love the medium of floating down a river, pulling into a beautiful campsite and sleeping under the stars with the sounds of the river nearby.  Such a simple pleasure.

I was actually 2 months pregnant at the time of this trip and since then, have found out that rafting is not recommended when pregnant.  Oops.

Yum : Crayfish & Nicko’s Thousand Island Dressing

We don’t usually have Crayfish for dinner on a Monday night, but we did last night due to Nick’s ‘hunting and gathering’ skills at the weekend.

Nicko’s Thousand Island Dressing

  • 3 parts soy mayonnaise
  • 1 part tomato sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce to taste
  • Tabasco sauce to taste

Method

  • Mix together and enjoy with any seafood.

Crayfish goes perfectly with a crisp green salad … and don’t forget a beer! xx
