Hill Street Grocer ♥

Hill Street Grocer

This morning we stocked up on our fresh fruit and veggies from the newly opened Hill Street Grocer in West Hobart, and our experience deserves a dedicated post!

I have tried all manner of combinations in regards to our food shopping.  When Poppy and James were babies I had Woolworths deliver our groceries on a weekly basis.  Then over the last year, Poppy, James and I would all go to the supermarket – making it an adventure in itself.  However, there were too many occasions where James and/or Poppy had a meltdown over Peppa Pig yoghurt v’s Woody and it all became too stressful!

I also found it was a work out in itself to push James in the trolley, plus all of our shopping around the supermarket and loading/unloading the car.  Once I got home I then had to schlep all the groceries from the garage into the kitchen … exhausted!

It sounds very dramatic but I have now returned to my weekly delivery from Woollies – I can plan our meals in the ‘comfort of our living room and uggies’ and hey presto – the very next morning our groceries are being handed to me by a friendly fellow – right at our door!

I have always tried to buy our fresh produce from the local markets or Hill Street Grocer – the cutest little store in West Hobart.  Even though I have to cross a couple of suburbs to get there (not a huge deal in Hobart) it is one of those shopping experiences that I have always loved having.  These hard-working folk have got their recipe just right – fantastic customer service, beautiful surroundings and the most amazing fresh produce that is displayed in a way that could be an art form.

So you can imagine my excitement when they opened a newer, brighter and bigger store just around the corner from their original one.  It is so fabulous in every way – modern, beautifully designed and featuring a European deli, a cheese section, a dedicated florist, housewares and all those gorgeous locally grown fruit and veggies.

With no ‘Domino Stars’ or balloons in sight, no loud-speaker announcements: “Security to Aisle 4″ and most importantly … no fluorescent lights!  Thank you Hill Street Grocer – you have nailed it!

Barnaby Lane ♥

Today I am loving the Smith Chair by Barnaby Lane.  We certainly don’t need anymore chairs in our home but it never hurts to ogle right?

The Smith chair is our most popular – it’s pretty obvious why! This sling leather chair is a stunning feature to any living room, bedroom or study. Available in natural, black or raw tan. Every home should have a Smith.

Tas Bound

I have had a busy week last week hosting a group of ATEC (Australian Tourism Export Council) travel agents on behalf of Tourism Tasmania.

It was an absolute pleasure to spend three days with a lovely bunch of people who sell Tasmanian product to their customers in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and UK/Europe.

Our familiarisation tour incorporated a variety of product and included the Barilla Bay Oysters; Candy Abalone; Cascade Brewery; Lenna of Hobart; Tasman Island Cruises; Port Arthur Historic Lavender Farm; Port Arthur Historic Site; Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park (Unzoo); Bangor Oyster & Wine Shed; The Wicked Cheese Company and Frogmore Creek.

We enjoyed beautiful food, met passionate operators and even got to experience the Southern ocean on a freezing day with Tasman Island Cruises.  A tough week at the office!  Xx

Feeling Blue

Pantone

Lately I have been loving all things navy blue.  I have always preferred a black base for my clothing and accessories but I find these gorgeous blues a little bit softer, especially teamed with white, hot pink or vibrant green.

Amazing weather, an amazing weekend full of dining out; walking on beaches and spending two glorious days away on the boat to Bruny Island.

Need I say any more, except Tasmania, your Autumn sun was so appreciated.  x

iPhone ♥

iPhone 6

After months of frustration with my iPhone 4S and persevering with it randomly dying mid-text,  needing to charge it twice a day and running out of memory, I have finally upgraded to an iPhone 6.

I was hesitant to change as I had a beautiful Il Bisonte Leather iPhone Card Case that had developed a gorgeous patina over the past 3 years.  I guess I will be on the lookout for a replacement now!

MONA Amarna

Mona James Turrell

On Mothers Day we popped out to the MONA Rooftop Plaza to see that ‘light thingy‘ (as my husband described it) which was indeed, very apt.

What we experienced was the James Turrell installation – Amarna:

Turrell harnesses the numinous potential of light and space; kind of like what God would do if He decided to build a gazebo. We see Amarna as an elevation of the museum’s hitherto subterranean ponderings of the human condition. If that sounds vague, that’s because Turrell‘s art must be seen to be believed; or, perhaps, not seen, but believed nonetheless.

It was truly amazing.  I will be back … especially for those heated seats!

Mum Love

Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day!

On Saturday afternoon we decided at the last-minute to go away on the boat and rolled out of the marina at 5pm.  We have just bought Nick’s parents boat – Spellbound, and this was our first family night away.  Staying in Shag Bay we were on the doorstep of Hobart but tucked inside this beautiful little bay on the Eastern Shore, we could have been anywhere.

I loved hanging out with Poppy and James on Mothers Day and made it special for me with Poppy exclaiming:

Mummy, you are the best Mummy ever and a really good cooker!

We picked up Sam and Scarlett on Sunday morning at Bellerive and hung out in the autumn sunshine drinking take-away coffees and eating bakery goodies.

I am forever humbled by this journey of Motherhood and continue to learn more and more from my children.  I wouldn’t swap it for the world!  Xx

Fabulous Friends

I am blessed with many beautiful friends in my life.  Even though quality time together is always compromised due to family and work commitments, I value the time I do share with my dear friends which can incorporate a quick chat before my yoga class, a catch up for a hot chocolate and cake before seeing an art house movie, a bushwalk with our children in tow or a crazy play date with lots of disjointed conversations!

Friends Collage

I was out on Tuesday night at Frank Restaurant with two of my special friends, when we ran into another one.  As we were all sitting and chatting about our work, it dawned on me how amazing my friends all are!

One has spent the last year in the battle against breast cancer and has now landed a great job with a Change Management Agency.  Another was successful in securing a lucrative grant to develop a tourism App for the local University and is off to Denmark to present a paper in June.  A dear friend of mine has a one-year old daughter with Cystic Fibrosis and has the constant juggle of hospital visits and returning to her job as an Outdoor Education Teacher.

Others own their own businesses and juggle being beautiful mothers to their children whilst operating tours around Tasmania; selling fireworks; project managing and building their family home, delivering personal training to a wide range of clients to even marrying people in their spare time!  One of my dear friends judges the National Tourism Awards every year, another is fighting for Indigenous rights in an uphill battle in Melbourne whilst others have aging parents living in Europe.  One of my oldest friends is the Operations Manager for a very successful business in Tasmania – selling Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon to the world.

One of my beautiful friends was pivotal in organising Tasmania’s premier event last November, where the world was invited to dinner as part of the Restaurant Australia campaign:

Feeling reflective as the snow settles on Mt. Wellington on this cool afternoon in Hobart, I value all the great times I share with you all.  You constantly inspire and motivate me.  Xx
