Porridge with Peppa

IMG_1099

We are ‘all-things-Peppa‘ in the house at the moment and Bron bought Poppy a Peppa Pig and Rebecca Rabbit figurine.  Poppy loves them and insisted on sharing her porridge with them!

Hmmmmph … Tired & Grumpy!

I’m tired and grumpy today, even though it is a beautiful autumn day in Hobart.  I haven’t been sleeping well as my hips and ligaments are giving me grief.  Poppy even told her Dad this morning that “Mummy’s ‘gumpy’”! Ah the delights of pregnancy!  I need to laze in one of these for the rest

Aimee ♥ Rob

Beautiful bride

Apologies for the lack of blog posts this week.  We currently have our friends Bron and Jerome staying with their two children and have been too busy hosting to do any posting!

On Saturday, Nick and I were honoured to celebrate Aimee and Rob’s wedding at Piermont Retreat in Swansea.  We had such a nice weekend together.  Poppy stayed with her Aunty Cath in Hobart and we had a leisurely drive up Tasmania’s East Coast (well I was with my ‘rally’ driver husband, but leisurely in the fact that we didn’t have to pull over numerous times to meet Poppy’s needs)!

Aimee looked absolutely stunning as she walked down ‘the aisle’ with her Dad and their whole wedding was a treat!  Beautiful people, wonderful scenery, croquet, Jansz and amazing food.  We danced until the wee hours – until I could barely walk in my high heels anymore!  Congratulations Aimee & Rob. xx

Cultured Kids

IMG_0989

On Wednesday Nick and I spent the day with Nick’s brother Will, his gorgeous wife Tup and their daughter – Maggie, who were visiting from Melbourne.  We thought we would provide the girls (Poppy & Maggie) with a good dose of culture and visited the newly refurbished Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery.

Our visit wasn’t as long as I would have hoped due to sleep time demands, but we were able to have a sneaky peek into the ‘new’ museum, and definitely liked what we saw.  I can’t wait to go back with more time, and perhaps without our ‘cultured kid’!!  (Sorry Pops)  xx

Maria Island ♥

IMG_0770

We have just returned from a fabulous boating holiday to Maria Island off Tasmania’s east coast.  It was the first time we have gone to Maria on Tagus and apart from Nick’s painful toothache over the weekend – we had a successful trip.

We left bright and early on Thursday morning, across Frederick Henry Bay through the Denison Canal and the Marion Narrows and arrived in Riedle Bay on Maria Island by the afternoon.  We met up with James, Leesa, Meg and Emily on their yacht Iverus.  All the girls loved running along the isolated beach to stretch their ‘sea legs’ after the long journey.

Hobart - Maria Island

Nick and I caught quite a few flathead on Good Friday for our lunch in Whalers Cove.  There is nothing better knowing that the fish you are eating was only swimming an hour ago!  Fresh is best.

Depha, Chris and Freya arrived later on Friday afternoon and we all enjoyed a great catch up that night.  My friend from Mother’s Group – Alicia, and her husband Richard and daughter Lexie also arrived on their yacht Clancy on Saturday afternoon.  Poppy and Lexie loved playing on the beach together.

The next couple of days were very relaxing with long walks along the beautiful beach; playing in the sand with Poppy; afternoon sleeps; catching fish, abalone and crayfish and of course savouring their flavours.  Poppy slept beautifully despite the strong winds that blew through, particularly on Saturday night.  Easter Bunny even found us on Sunday morning, where Poppy experienced her first chocolate!

On Sunday night we held our second Easter Progressive Dinner Party, with Zucchini & Feta Fritters served on Iverus, followed by a beautiful Fish Curry made by Chris on Breakwater Bay and I made the classic Golden Syrup Dumplings to finish off the meal.  However our second progressive dinner wasn’t all smooth sailing – Leesa and James were wrangling with their fritter mixture and consoling a very upset Emily; we had a bird crash on board Chris & Depha’s boat during the meal and took some nursing before flying off again; the sink became blocked and fish were flapping on the deck!  Luckily we didn’t don the black tie outfits this year!

We returned back through the Canal on Monday and stayed another night in Norfolk Bay, with the obligatory campfire on the beach where the girls loved toasting their marshmallows!  Lovely xx.

Sneaky Peek : Another Soul

LD_155

As I lie in bed each night and feel the little kicks from within, I reflect on the impending journey of becoming a mother for the second time.

Before having Poppy, I was actually quite terrified about becoming a Mum. I was never really that ‘maternal’ with other children, even though I always wanted a family of my own.  I was terrified about the lack of sleep, the change of lifestyle and whether I would actually like being a Mum or not. Such an unknown.

Having Poppy when I was 40 made me realise I had 22 years of ‘adult’ life to become quite used to travelling, working, going out and being quite ‘self-indulgent’ I guess.  But after experiencing the miracle of birth and the unconditional love that sweeps over you straight away, I knew I would be OK.  And I have been.

I have LOVED being a ‘Mummy’ and the journey keeps getting better each day.  When I look at Poppy and see her beautiful face that is reminiscent of the man I love, my heart melts.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday and these images gave me a sneaky peek into yet, another soul.  xx

MONA : MONA

IMG_7638

It was a double whammy MONA weekend for me this weekend, frequenting Saturday and Sunday!

Saturday was my beautiful friend Aimee’s Hen’s Lunch.  It was a very stylish affair – with some ‘bridey chintz’ thrown in for good measure.  We all met for a wine tasting (mmm … my water tasted nice) followed by a long lunch at the MONA Wine Bar.  It was so lovely to spend the afternoon enjoying beautiful food, good conversation and reminiscing about past follies with old friends.

Sunday morning was quite miserable, and after an early walk on the beach with Nick, Poppy and Maisy we ventured out to MONA to visit the museum.

Poppy did very well in the pram, whilst Nick and I tried to appreciate the ‘Theatre of the World’ exhibition.  At one stage, I did have to pull out the saviour – Peppa Pig on my iPhone to keep the peace!

We then had a quick lunch at the Wine Bar again.  As nice as it was, it wasn’t quite as relaxing as the day before!  Poppy practically gulped down her baby chino – leaving the tell-tale signs of chocolate residue behind!
