Potty ♥

Today I am loving that Poppy is now officially toilet trained!

IMG_5248

Poppy was showing signs that she was ready and Christmas was a perfect time as we were on holidays and away on the boat.  She loved doing a few ‘bush wees’ when we were at Middleton and at the beach.

We’ve only had a few ‘accidents’ but all in all it has been a very smooth transition.  It is so nice to only change (and buy) one set of nappies now.  Yippee!

So now she wears:

Bonds Briefs

… and uses one of these!

Rockly Rolly

Poppy

Mum, it’s rockly rolly!

With this statement, Poppy summed up our recent boating trip perfectly!  She couldn’t quite say “rocky” without the ‘l’.

It was our first trip away as a family of four on our little Tagus and we had a fab time but did strike some very windy weather over the four days, hence the ‘rocky rolly’!  We bunkered down in the safety of sheltered coves on Bruny Island and had a very relaxing time with our friends.

I ended up ‘jumping ship’ with Poppy, James and Maisy due to the conditions and John, my father-in-law picked us up from North Bruny Island on Saturday afternoon.

Both James and Poppy slept well in their new bunks on board, which was a relief!

Happy New Year

Tee Pee

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas?

I’m back from a fabulous holiday with my immediate and extended families and ready for another year of The Poppy Files for 2014.

You might want to grab yourself a cup of tea as this post is an epic!  I’m sorry about the photo overload, but I have so many to share with you!

Gibson Christmas

On the Sunday before Christmas we drove to Hagley to spend time with my family.  As usual, we ate far too much food and were spoilt with amazing gifts:

We then enjoyed seven days away with Nick’s family at a fabulous holiday house in Middleton called Wavestation.  We enjoyed all the trappings of the quintessential Australian summer holiday:  ham on the bone, prawns, champagne, pavlova, picnic rugs on the grass, boat trips, long summer days and children playing with buckets and spades, riding bikes, scooters and sliding down water slides.

I will let the photos speak for themselves but it was so delightful to spend time with loved ones.

New Years Eve

A beautiful Hobart evening, we enjoyed the 9:30 pm fireworks on the water with friends.  I was even home in bed by 12:00 am.  A very sad state of affairs!

Tomorrow I will share with you our recent boat trip – I don’t want to overload you today!  Xx

Sneaky Peek : Peter Stuyvesant International 2013

Jen, Manni, Me & Rob

It’s that time of year again where our old gang get together for our ‘tongue in cheek’ sporting event – the Peter Stuyvesant International!  In its seventh year, Saturday the 14th of December 2013 was a decathlon and included the following (well we were two sports short but hey who’s counting?):

  • Boules
  • Tug ‘O War
  • Egg Throw
  • Badminton
  • Orange Run
  • Pictionary
  • Apple Bob
  • Nurf Shoot

The ‘Raqueteers’ (Nick, Alex and Pete) took out the trophy this year and Rob won the ‘Best Dressed’ gong for those pink shorts and that mo!

The highlight of the day for me was seeing Aimee, who is 8 months pregnant giving it her all in the Tug ‘O War!  Hilarious.  Xxx

Yum : Pink Eye Potato and Salmon Salad

Summer in Tassie is synonymous with our famous Pink Eye potatoes!  This recipe found in the fabulous Bream Creek Farmers Market – The Cookbook showcases this fine vegetable very nicely.

Pink Eye Potato and Salmon Salad

  • 8 medium Pink Eye potatoes
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 3 tbsp whole egg mayonnaise
  • 400 g salmon (smoked or tinned)
  • 1 small spanish onion
  • 1 tbsp capers
  • 2 tbsp dill
  • 1 tbsp chives
  • Salt and pepper

Method

    • Scrub the potatoes and put them in a medium-sized saucepan, cover with water and bring to the boil
    • Simmer for 15 minutes until the potatoes are cooked but firm.  Drain the potatoes.  When cool, cut into 1 cm cubes
    • Hard boil the eggs by bringing a small saucepan of water to the boil, adding the eggs and cooking for 10 minutes.  Cool, peel and cut into quarters
    • Combine the sour cream and mayonnaise in a small bowl
    • To assemble, arrange the potatoes, egg and salmon on a platter.  Drizzle with the sour cream dressing, sprinkle with the finely sliced onion, whole capers and chopped herbs
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve.

500 Posts

500 Posts

Today is my 500th post on The Poppy Files!

What a wild ride it has been since my first published post on the 25th August of 2011 when Poppy was only four months old.  I still love documenting my daily musings, the growth and development of our children and family adventures shared.

Bring on another 500!
