Moonrise Kingdom

Last night, Melissa and I had our regular movie date and went to see Wes Anderson’s new film – Moonrise Kingdom.

Here is what Margaret and David had to say about it At the Movies:

Wes Anderson is a strange and lovely fellow and he’s drawn to strange and yet resilient characters in his movies. His film MOONRISE KINGDOM opened the Cannes Film Festival this year and while it didn’t have audiences stomping in the aisles, there is a quality to the film that embraces you with its sweetness. Two young people Sam and Susy recognize the soul mate in the other and plan to run away together.

The year is 1965, the location an island off the east coast of the United States where not only Susy’s parents – FRANCES MCDORMAND and BILL MURRAY, but the head of Sam’s Scout troop – EDWARD NORTON, and local cop – BRUCE WILLIS – all try to track down the escaping duo.

There is something so endearing at the heart of Wes Anderson’s movies that you feel sucked in despite the quirkiness of his design, his direction and indeed his characters. His singular take on young love on the run from any sort of authority has moments of sheer oddness, but it’s all of a piece with his other work and you are either an Anderson fan or you’re not.

I recommend it!  I loved the quirkiness…and the 60’s camping gear! x

Four Years

Today is our Fourth Wedding Anniversary!  Nick and I had a fabulous winter wedding, surrounded by our beautiful family and friends.  We were married on Hobart’s waterfront at 11.30 am, with a blanket of snow on Mt. Wellington.  It was so romantic. Our ceremony was followed by a long lunch at Morilla Estate (which is

Delicacy

There are incredible people whom we meet at the wrong moment.

And there are people who are incredible because we meet them at the right moment.

Cloud Nine

I’m on cloud nine with my new Elk Cloud Cardi! Heaven sent! Ps:  I have ‘officially’ weaned Poppy now.  It was a beautiful journey together for the past 14 months.  Bring on the bubbles!  X

L ♥ N

My sister Janelle left this little surprise on our dressing table the day after our wedding in 2008! Say it with rice! We are off to Melbourne and Phillip Island for four days over the weekend. Each year we have a winter get together with all of Nick’s family.  It will be nice to see

A Happy Event

Last night, my good friend Melissa and I went to the State Cinema to enjoy the French movie – A Happy Event. Here is a review from Margaret & David from At the Movies: Fresh from the French Film Festival this year comes A HAPPY EVENT, which, as you might guess from the title, is about a birth.

Magazine Moments

Ah those delightful magazine moments are few and far between these days! However, on Monday when Poppy was in care,  I had an appointment  and in the warm and cosy waiting room were several current fashion mags, vying for my attention.  I settled on the Harper’s Bazaar and enjoyed that simple pleasure of flicking through the

Feeling the Pressure

My work at the moment is CRAZY. The course I co-ordinate starts tomorrow for the second semester (Certificate IV Tourism – Guiding) and I am certainly feeling the pressure. How I feel at the moment reminded me of this photo I took whilst hiking on Table Mountain in South Africa in 2005! x

Mountains to the Sea

This poem was written by my dear friend Bron (and my bridesmaid) who read it at our wedding in 2008:

Love is a river connecting the mountains to the sea

Two sacred places

Two unique people

Joined by love

Fueled by an endless cycle.

Love is a river connecting the mountains to the sea

You may find her on a mountain peak

On top of the world

Basking in the beauty of the clouds

Clothing the valleys.

Fed by the sunshine

And changeable skies

The wild soaking rains filtering

Through the mosses

Etching their pathways to the river.

Love is a river connecting the mountains to the sea

You may find him on the ocean

The world laid out around

Revelling in the crystal depths

And the expansive horizon

Exploring the secret coves

Rocky pools

Washed by the waters

Navigating the storms

The salty sea embracing

New life brought by the river.

Love is a river connecting the mountains to the sea

You two have chosen to take each other

To your most precious places

To share the exhilaration of open spaces

And the passion and fury of each

Passing storm.

You are committed to explore the depths

And intimacy of the river

That connects your souls

Offering up your spirits to become

Part of this endless journey

Cleansed and transformed.

Love is a river connecting the mountains to the sea

It seems appropriate to celebrate

This marriage in Hobart

On the river

That connects our mountain

To the sea.
