Papa Snow

Red Mountain

My dear friend Eryl passed away last September but I am thinking of him today … on his birthday.

I first met Eryl (or Papa Snow as he was affectionately known) when I started working as a Lifty (ski tow operator) at Ben Lomond when I was a wee young lass.

We shared many happy times in the snow surrounded by special friends including Goody, Luke, Elise, Steve and many more. The most memorable being a trip to Red Mountain in Canada in 2005. Eryl was 71 at the time, but that didn’t stop him from skiing all day, passing around his hip flask on the chair lift, hitch hiking and even dancing on the bar.

Eryl had a vigor for life and I miss him dearly. x

Easter 2015

Happy Easter! I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday with family and friends?

We have enjoyed an Easter in Hobart this year – the first of many as we are usually away on the boat, but we celebrated a good friend’s wedding on Saturday afternoon at Glen Albyn Estate.

Other Easter activities included an early morning bike ride on Good Friday, followed by a bushwalk at the Waterworks Reserve with Sam and our little peeps. I made more Tomato Relish and whilst Nick was busy with “Best Man” duties, Poppy, James and I enjoyed a visit to the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery on Saturday morning and marvelled at colourful butterflies and fluffy Emperor penguin chicks.

Sunday we had a ‘recovery’ lunch at T42 and Monday we walked the Alum Cliffs Track at Kingston. I finished off Easter with more chocolate eggs and a movie at The State Cinema to see Dior and I. Perfecto! X

I should be casting my mind towards winter, ugg boots, snow and warming stews but I can’t help but dream of next summer and the beautiful bright outdoor products of Basil Bangs. Especially as I look out the window to falling rain and white caps on the Derwent River!
