Ordinary ♥

Today I am loving this poem that I recently saw on Facebook.  It is good to be reminded of the simple things in life and to enjoy the ordinary.  x

Make the Ordinary Come Alive

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.

Director’s Chair ♥

Il Bisonte Directors ChairToday I am loving the Il Bisonte Director’s Chair.  Il Bisonte is one of my favourite brands as I have a very soft spot for beautiful leather goods and have acquired quite a collection of their gorgeous handbags over the years.

Il Bisonte

I first saw this chair in the New York store several years ago where I was hyperventilating over all the beauties and now for a cool $1590.00 you can pick one up from Hunt Leather in Australia.  Mmmm … I think I will just admire from afar.

Iconic, classic and stylish this Director’s Chair by Il Bisonte is an absolute object of desire.
Will make superb addition to any interior, or make a fabulous camping or picnic companion.
Included is an adjustable leather magazine holder with numerous pockets and pouches to store all the bits and pieces you may need whilst relaxing in style.
The combination of the vegetable dyed leather and untreated ash wood means that the piece will age with you, creating memories rather than just being another piece of furniture.

This piece features;
Vegetable dyed cowhide seat, back rest and magazine holder
Untreated ash timber and brass structure.

Walk ♥

Above all, do not lose your desire to walk:  every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness;  I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it … but by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill … Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.

Søren Kiekegaard, letter to Jette (1847)

SonglinesI read Bruce Chatwin’s classic book The Songlines when I was travelling through Asia for the first time in my early twenties.  I distinctly remember it striking a chord with me as I was discovering new cultures and the world of free and independent travel for the first time.

The above quote found in the book signifies so many things for me as I LOVE to walk and relate to Søren’s words.  I hate to think how many miles I have walked in my 43 years but I hope there will be many more to come.

Le Creuset ♥

Le CreusetFor the past fifteen years I have been loving Le Creuset cookware:

Le Creuset began producing its first porcelain enamelled cast iron pots in 1925 from its foundry in Fresnoy le Grand, France. It is from this base that Le Creuset continues to produce its world-famous cast iron pots.

While Le Creuset has expanded the types of products it offers and has taken advantage of many technological advances since its beginnings in 1925, some things have not changed in the manufacture of Le Creuset’s cast iron.

Le Creuset has continued to use the hand-crafted techniques and the original process of forging and casting in the manufacturing of its cookware. This attention to its heritage is also characteristic of the design. The Cocotte, or French Oven, was one of the first cast iron items produced by Le Creuset and is still the most popular item sold in a range of bright retro colours, with Volcanic (orange) the company’s trademark.

I have the cobalt blue range which I have just recently heard is being phased out.  Shock horror!  These pieces are such a staple in my kitchen that I appreciate them every day, long after I have forgotten the price tag.

Raw Hide ♥

Reindeer Hide

Today I am loving my new reindeer hide that I recently purchased from Rhubarb for Gifts in Launceston.  My old school friend Ruth owns this store and she posted photos of the hides (which are ethically sourced) on Facebook.

RhubarbLuckily the Christmas money I had tucked away, came in very handy as I have been coveting a hide for quite some time.  This beauty has now made its home on our bedroom floor next to the Moosey doona.  Ah Nordic love!

James even loves doing his morning yoga on the hide – he he!

♥ Old Friends

Jackie with James and Greg

Phew, it’s been a busy week – hence the lack of blog posts!  After meeting each other in Alaska 21 years ago, Greg and Jackie have flown in from the States to stay with us for the week.  It is a shame that Nick isn’t here to meet them, but he is skiing up a storm in Jackson Hole.

Skagway

It has been fabulous catching up with each since our adventures through the ‘Last Frontier’ and reminiscing about our trip all those years ago.

This week I have shown them a piece of our paradise here in Tasmania.  On Tuesday we went for a bush walk on Mt Wellington with James in the backpack (which was a good test out for my legs) and yesterday we drove to Freycinet National Park where Jackie and Greg walked into Wineglass Bay and I sauntered up to the lookout with my little man on my back again. We finished off the day with a dinner at T42.  Bliss. Xx

Danish Drama ♥

The Killing

For the past month I am loving the Danish drama series – The Killing.  Each night I disappear into our Den and to ‘Denmark’ – becoming immersed in the political thriller.  At the end of an episode I am often so intrigued about what will happen next, I watch another one.

I discovered the fantastic Danish thriller through my love of Borgen.

Ok, back to another episode (only joking … I better look after my children)!

Instagram Me

InstagramI have finally succumbed to the world of Instagram!

Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your mobile phone, then choose a filter to transform the image into a memory to keep around forever. We’re building Instagram to allow you to experience moments in your friends’ lives through pictures as they happen. We imagine a world more connected through photos.

I held off for a while as I felt I had too much going on in my tech world … including Facebook, Pinterest and this blog (on WordPress).  But after having a tutorial with my tech-savvy friend Melissa (whilst we were both breastfeeding our bubbas and our toddlers were throwing sand off the balcony from the sandpit) I am all set to go.  Now I just need to snap away and work out the world of #hashtags and hope I get them #right?!

Quack ♥

Georg Jensen QuackToday I am loving my new Georg Jensen Quack Serving Jug that I picked up for a song on eBay and arrived in our letterbox this morning!  I have been coveting this little beauty for quite some time and so it pays to be patient:

QUACK serving jugs: winner of the 2003 Red Dot Award, a prestigious international award for excellence in design

The designer’s motto is that “a thing should never be just a thing.” Rather it should inspire emotion. Whether it makes you smile or think of a long-buried memory, good design tells a story. For the practical pieces that we use every day, this is just as important.

QUACK is fun. Leaning forward, it resembles its namesake animal, though only in an abstract way. It is a compact jug but manages to hold up to 0,9 L. It can be used for hot or cold drinks. While it is not officially a thermos, the polyurethane foam insert and stopper enable it to keep liquids warm or cold for 1-2 hours.

Sleep ♥

James & Max Russell

Today I am loving SLEEP … all night long!  Master James slept from 7:00pm until 6:30am last night and I feel like a new woman.  It may have taken him 6 months, but hopefully he likes the idea and continues with his slumber!  Xx

It is also my dear old Dad’s Birthday today … Happy Birthday Dad!  Here he is holding Poppy when she was two days old.  His big farmers hands are almost the same size as she was!
